Places to Eat in Beverley

Ogino – Japanese

The food we serve at Ogino is Asian cuisine with a Japanese base. The menu, conceived by proprietor and chef Rieko Ogino, is diverse and imaginative. She prides herself on delivering a full food experience that’s not only creative, but also delivers an array of complex and exquisite flavours. Her concept of Asian cooking using local Yorkshire produce has proved to be a real winning formula. The menu naturally consists of beautiful sushi, but also extensively embraces fresh cooked fish and shellfish, meat including beef and pork, poultry such as chicken and duck.

Customer Review – Had a fabulous meal tonight and Ogino, not had japanese before and decided to try something different and we are so glad we did! Its was delicious we had the tapas so could choose little bits of everything and it was all so lovely!
The puddings were also delicious!
The staff were very friendly and attentive! Definitely recommend!

Customer Review – My partner and I visited last Thursday, it was our first meal out post lockdown and we were not disappointed. We both shared the porterhouse steak and it was cooked to perfection and easily the best steak I’ve ever eaten. We’ve been once before for my partners birthday and neither time have we been disappointed. Food and service was amazing and we will definitely been returning.

Maa Indian Restaurant – Indian

Maa India is a place of tasty food dishes from Indian heritage. We have included many of your firm favourites alongside a careful selection of dishes. We thank you in advance for giving us the opportunity to serve you and we hope you will enjoy your meal.

Customer Review – Had a fantastic meal tonight. First time I’ve tried the chicken balti and it was superb. As usual the service was second to none and we were treated like royalty. Nothing was too much trouble and is really is the highlight of the week to enjoy superb food with excellent service. Thank you all X

Figaro’s – Itallian

Figaro is a popular family Italian restaurant in Beverley town centre where you can be assured of a warm welcome, great service and delicious Italian foods. We’ve been carefully crafting traditional Italian dishes from the finest ingredients for almost 20 years at our home in New Walker Gate.

Customer Review – Lovely restaurant, authentic Italian food. Full of flavour. Gamberoni was amazing as a starter. Staff were really friendly. Even asked for an Italian dessert not on the menu and nothing was too much trouble. Good measures in place for the current situation. Will definitely return. Thank you

Things To Do In Beverley

Beverley Minster

Beverley Minster is a Church of England Parish Church – the largest in England. Founded in 700 AD, the current building was completed in 1400. On Mondays to Saturdays we are open 9.00 – 5.30 (April – October), and 9.00 – 4.00 (November – March) Sunday worship is at 8.00, 10.30 and 5.30, and the Minster is open in between times. The Shop is open Monday – Saturday. Admission is free. ‘Serve yourself’ refreshments available.

Customer Review – A lovely building with Cathedral like architecture and a very impressive west front. Very helpful volunteers and informative placards round the building describing the history of the Minster. Unique historic font, good gift shop, well worth a visit.

East Riding Treasure House

The East Riding Treasure House is a heritage centre providing museum, library and archive facilities under one roof, plus access to the adjoining Edwardian exhibition spaces of the Beverley Art Gallery. The Treasure House tower provides splendid views over the rooftops of Beverley.

Customer Review – Art, history, archives, events and a smart café – all under one roof. What’s not to like about this small but perfectly formed building close to the centre of town? The museum space traces the history of Beverley, the aesthetically pleasing gallery is currently showcasing a retrospective of the painter John Sprakes and in between them is photographer Peter Heaton’s Reading The Landscape: Photographs and Words Inspired By Walking the Wolds (albeit a few too many distracting words).
Take the stairs (or the lift) to the top floor viewing gallery for a great overview of the area.
All in all great way to spend a couple of hours – and learn a lot.

East Riding Theatre – Subject to COVID 19

ERT is a vibrant, professional theatre located in a converted Baptist chapel in Beverley. Founded by actor and Beverley resident Vincent Regan and achieved through a huge community effort, the theatre opened its doors for the first time in December 2014. It has since delivered an eclectic programme of quality theatre, music and entertainment to the people of HU17 and beyond.

Customer Review – Visited Beverley to go to a performance given by Mark Radcliffe at this lovely theatre. Mark Radcliffe is a wonderful performer who we have seen many times before so were quite happy to travel over a hundred miles just to see him. Had not been there before and was amazed to see it. In a previous incarnation it had been a chapel and has been lovingly restored and converted to this super theatre. Not only is it an excellent performing space but it also has a great cafe and bar, has good seating and excellent sound. We enjoyed the performance so much that we book for another afternoon concert a few days later. Can’t praise the staff enough, they were very friendly and helpful and the only real drawback is the waiting area before the audience are let into the auditorium. The weather was not good on one of the days we visited and before the auditorium was opened there was hardly any room to stand. Apart from this it is a perfect venue and we will not hesitate to visit it again if we are in the area.

Parkway Cinema Beverley

Located in the Flemingate shopping centre a few minutes walk from the town centre, we present the very best of the current screen releases, from the family blockbusters you expect, to more adventurous films you might not. We’ll also offer a wide range of ‘Event Cinema’, bringing the best in live opera, ballet and theatre from around the world to the big screen. Not to mention our live shows and Christmas pantomime! We pride ourselves on offering exceptional service, and genuine hospitality. Together with live shows, birthday parties and private hire, we are proud to offer more than just movies.

Customer Review – We booked and paid over the phone a few days in advance using the Meerkat 2 for 1 ticket deal which was very easy. On arrival we realised there was a café upstairs next to the ticket collection section, having had a drink in the nearby Greggs we didn’t utilise this today but it looked well-presented and spacious.
Our tickets were waiting for us at reception and once inside screen 4 we were very impressed by the comfort of the seating as well as the size and spacing of the well upholstered seats. Even with someone in-front there is plenty of separation so you have an unobstructed view. The sound was really clear and the clarity of the picture was excellent, we really enjoyed the entire experience and all for the price of just one ticket. The toilet facilities were also top notch, spotlessly clean and both had soap/hand cream and hot air jet hand dryers.
Although the cinema is over twenty miles away from home this will be somewhere we shall certainly come back to again and again.

Beverley Market

The beautiful market town of Beverley, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, is steeped in history. Beverley’s famous market dates back centuries and is a vital part of community life. It is held in the town centre, on Saturdays and attracts thousands of shoppers every week. The busiest market is on Saturdays and there is a friendly atmosphere and a vibrant mix of stalls, selling food from around the world, fruit and vegetables, freshly baked goods, arts and crafts, and clothing. There are more than 120 stalls in Saturday Market, with traders coming as far afield as Manchester, Nottingham and Lincolnshire to sell their goods. Some more traditional traders have been coming to the market for decades, while other newcomers cater for the latest trends in food and gifts.

Customer Review – Easy to find and lots of parking, it’s a nice size and has stalls catering for everybody. It’s nice that there are still markets going that promote independent trading. Shops are also open for a bit of variety. We take dogs around stalls and had no problems. Recommended

As you can see there are plenty of things to keep you busy In the market town of Beverley, with either your family or as a couple.

Whilst you are here why not pay us a visit at Heron Lakes and have a look at some of our available lodges.

New Arrivals – Wessex Spinney Vue 2021 – Heron Lakes Holiday Park

Heron Lakes Holiday Park is expecting the arrival of a brand new Spinney Vue this week.

Heres a little bit about the Spinney and why it’s such a special lodge.

Think of a characterful, cosy and wonderfully homely lodge with unique design features and a contemporary twist and you won’t be far away from imagining the Spinney!

Step inside and the warm, welcoming feel continues. The main entrance opens up into the kitchen area where there’s a convenient country-style, white painted oak hall bench with baskets and a mirror with coat hooks.

The kitchen is a practical arrangement; semi open-plan with borrowed light from the main living space, a central wall, open to either side, provides space for a ‘slide & hide’ oven with separate hob and chimney extractor. Integrated luxury branded appliances include a fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and wine cooler, and soft cream kitchen units, Louvre Jade tiling, a ceramic sink and a Roman blind in a pretty Mallard design fabric finish the look.

The lounge / dining area has a woodland feel created by feature designer stacked log wallpaper to the far wall. Here a false chimneybreast with a distressed oak mantelpiece and an electric stove set on a tiled hearth creates a lovely cosy feel. Designed exclusively for Wessex, a comfortable sofa in Glencoe Fraser Gold, along with two wingback-style armchairs in a pretty natural stone fabric with stag design, provide plenty of room for the whole family to sit back and relax and patio doors and two contemporary, bookshelves complete the arrangement.

To the dining area there’s a rustic dining table and benches. Over-lit by a designer, black gold, industrial pendant light this space has a relaxed, casual feel; the perfect environment for drawn out meals with friends.

Through into the bedrooms and the comfortable, warm and cosy feel continues. The master bedroom makes a striking impression with a feature panelled wall with wall niches which include USB points and lights. There’s a four-poster bed over-lit by mood lighting and a dressing chest, wardrobes and bedside cabinets provide plenty of storage.

The second bedroom with twin beds also has wall niches; with inset lights these provide a practical space for bedtime essentials such as an alarm clock and a good book. The bedroom’s cottage feel is completed by Roman Blinds in a pretty hare design fabric and Kettle Interiors oak furniture.

The family shower room, conveniently situated close by, includes a heated towel rail, contemporary vanity unit with countertop basin and minimalist, Fusion thermostatic shower column. It’s comfort and style for everyone in this lodge!

Heres a few images of what a finished and furnished Spinney Vue would look like.

Taas is inspired by Oriental and Indian dishes and combines the best of both dishes.Taas has something for everyone. I have always found the staff to be polite and friendly – even when they are rushed off their feet.

Things To Do In York

The Bloody Tour of York – Tourism Award Winner

Pass by top attractions—such as the Shambles and Jorvik Viking Centre—as you listen to your guide tell tales of witches, queens, and murderers that you wouldn’t hear on most other tours.

Customer Review – Great evening out exploring York after dark with Mad Alice as our guide. Really interesting learning about the gruesome history of York. Mad Alice was an excellent guide, very entertaining and knowledgable. The tour was more focused on the history of York compared to a classic ‘ghost tour’ however definitely recommend doing for a fun and informative evening!

Secure your entry to one of York’s sweetest attractions by booking your admission ticket to York’s Chocolate Story in advance. As well as granting you access to interactive exhibits and a chocolate workshop, your ticket includes a guided tour of the museum, which is guaranteed to heighten your knowledge of chocolate and its roots.

Customer Review – Visited the chocolate tour on a wet day in York, very interesting, Pedro our guide was lovely very knowlegable, only a small group of us due to covid made it a lot better, try it you wont be disappointed

Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park – Great For Kids

Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park is a visitor attraction in the beautiful historic arboretum at Askham Bryan College. Our mission is to inspire and educate future generations to respect and conserve animals and plants.

Customer Review – We visited here whilst on a short break in the area. We arrived just as the reptile experience was beginning, and then simply followed one of the members of staff around as he fed the various animals over the course of the next couple of hours. Jake was therefore essentially our tour guide and he proved to be an excellent one, endlessly patient as our 11 year old daughter and her friend asked loads of questions and a seemingly never ending font of knowledge! We saw marmosets, wallabies and meerkats who are all in separate areas but the distances involved are very manageable for younger children, who also have a pretty good play area to entertain them should their interest in wildlife wane. There is also an indoor area with fish, frogs etc. All in all an extremely positive experience at a very reasonable price!

Yorkshire Balloon Flights

Yorkshire Balloon Flights is an independent, family run business offering Hot Air Balloon Rides from York, with unrivalled views of the historic city and it’s surrounding landscape.

Customer Review – Ollie and Neil made the whole trip a never to forget event – from lifting the basket off the trailer on a sunny mist strewn Knavesmire to packing the balloon away on a stubble corn field outside Riccall.
We were up up and away in every sense of the word – there is nothing more to say other than if you do it you will not regret it.

National Railway Museum

FREE ENTRY Home to iconic locomotives and an unrivalled collection of engineering brilliance, we celebrate the past, present and future of innovation on the railways. Dedicated to igniting our visitors’ curiosity about the people, places and engineering marvels behind the railways, we put our passion for amazing stories into everything we do.

Customer Review – Going back after 12 years was a shock, so much has changed and certainly will do for the future, saw the Stratford to Moreton tramway and it’s history, we see a little which still remains in Stratford upon Avon, an amazing place to go around and to be able to see the Mallard experience, for myself was great, shame at present the Flying Scotsman is not there, she makes my day, as I can remember her passing us many times when younger on regular service, what is going to be done with all the artefacts you hold as due to Covid-19 this are not being seen, which is such a shame as so much is there, hopefully they will be on display in the future, wish you well for the future with all the plans we saw.
